Hi, I’m Stephen Gould, founder of Redhouse.

Redhouse is a placemaking consultancy. Our purpose is to support organisations, including local government, house-builders and developers, in creating beautiful places and thriving, happy communities.

We believe that aligning political, social, environmental, and commercial interests can elevate entire communities, embodying the idea that "a rising tide lifts all the boats..."

Our work practically considers design, location, infrastructure, logistics, service, and, above all, the needs of the people we are creating spaces for. Our Placemaking expertise creates quality places that people want to live, work, play, grow and learn in.

The projects that really work are those where people have been integral to the idea and contributed to it. This results in places where individuals and businesses can socialise, learn, connect with their neighbourhood to understand it better, support the local economy, and contribute creatively in engaging ways.

Our approach lies in patiently seeing placemaking as a collaborative process, working with all stakeholders to create inclusive spaces that improve public assets like streets, sidewalks, parks, and buildings. This might include significant long-term projects such as expanding housing, business and transportation options in the area, preserving historic buildings and creating transit corridors, and bike lanes.

These improvements make communities more inviting, encourage social interaction and stimulate economic development and confidence.

We recognise that great placemaking is a constructive, often complex political effort across different organisitions, bringing purposeful change to the landscape. Ensuring it happens requires planning, funding, agreement and co-operation and delivery. This all takes will, experience and consensus and, at times, wisdom.
